Not quite complete

The book starts out well. It builds a case for Sentiment trading, and gets you thinking about how it actually works. The author says technical indicators are a general waste of time (However the latter half of the book is devoted to technical indicators - which makes no sense to sentiment trading... further more... the charts used are actually missing the indicators it says should be there.. pages 142-145... blank charts). Then it begins to fall apart after that. The author explains how he uses COT but never actually helps you understand the COT report itself (if you decide to look at it on line). Nor does the author explain how to set it up on your own spread sheet if you wanted to do that. How to exit a trade is so inadequate as well. Then the time devoted to "putting it all together" is one page of summary that doesn't actually tell you how to put a trading system together. Basically it means you still have a lot of work to do to put together a sentiment trading system as this book doesn't help in doing that. It seems the author attacked the subject with vigour to start with then just dropped the ball half way through and padded it out with indicators - which he says are worthless in the first half of the book anyway. I'd give it 2.5 stars out of 5 as the first half of the book is interesting... the second half you can easily replicate from information on-line and is not relevant to sentiment trading.

Absolutely essential in today's market

As a active FX trader and follower of the methods of Larry Williams Jake Bernstein, I found this book essential to developing a workable, scalable and most importantly...profitable trading plan. Backtested and forward tested...in a word, it works! Solid, straightforward writing, examples and formulas. Recommended highly for the experienced trader; newbies probably won't grasp it. It is not a Holy Grail; the methodology requires a good deal of screen time experience and actual manual trading to calibrate the nuances in both calculations and charting. Slog thru it, you will not be sorry! Thank you Jamie!

Very strong tool to consider in your trade decision making process

I am a long time reader of DailyFX site and find it very useful.
One tool that caught my attention some time ago was the COT report column, write by Jamie Saettele.
The book goes further in explain the COT report itself, how to generate indicators from COT data, how to interpret it and, finally, how to use it as a tool to help trigger trades.
Well explained, with plenty of charts, it also has an introduction to Elliot Wave theory, largely used by the author in his tracking of markets.
I recommend the book because of it introduces this subject in a very straight forward way, easy to understand and apply immediately in your trading routine.

It was easy to use

I purchased this for a university course. It was easy to use, and actually manageable to read on a daily basis, since the chapters are mostly small, but full of information. I enjoyed this book and the course. This book is also much smaller, with fewer pages than an average size text book, which is also nice when having to carry it around. This was added to my permanent resource library, I did not elect to resell it when the course was finished, if that is an indicator of how much I liked it.

Concise is a sure determining word, alright! Not what you'd want for med school, but perfect for the undergrad getting ready to go. It helps give you a one up, knowing what some of the infectious organisms are. Overall, it's a pretty good by, for the non-doctorate.

Clinical experience in South Manchester Hospitals led to MRCP 1986, then commenced clinical oncology training in Nottingham and Glasgow, with FRCR 1989. Research Fellowship in the Department of Medical Oncology Beatson Institute, with MD and MSc in Clinical Pharmacology 1992. Senior lecturer in Clinical Oncology 1994, then Consultant in Clinical Oncology in Aberdeen 1995-2013 with particular interests in urological and thoracic malignancies.

Barebones Basics

I purchased this and the Quantitative Investment Analysis Workbook' and was slighly disappointed. The workbook is good in that it forces you to workout quantitative problems, but the concept discriptions can be oversimplified. Good if you have a good base and want to review quantitative theory, but don't expect to learn these concepts in-depth.

Workbook was in excellent condition and shipping was fast.

Bought this workbook as well as the book a while back to add to my personal library and completely enjoyed reading the book as well as working all the problems/calculations that came in the study manual (workbook) that can be purchased seperately.

While the book and workbook may not be for everyone I completely enjoyed reading the book and working all the calculations. Would recommend both the book and workbook to others who enjoy reading financial textbooks such as I do. However I would not encourage someone to read it unless they already have a solid understanding of finance otherwise it may be beyond the scope of their comprehension.

Note: This workbook and book were purchased for hobby reading since my academic and professional background is finance, however I am not a CFA or plan on sitting for the CFA Exam.

About the Author
Robert Huzij is Coordinator of the Heavy Equipment Technician and Apprenticeship programs at Cambrian College in Sudbury Ontario. He serves on Ontario's Heavy Equipment Advisory Board and Motive Power Provincial Advisory Committees, Chairs the Skills Ontario Heavy Equipment Technical Skills Competition, and has developed curricula for technician training, documentation, and testing. Prior to teaching, Mr. Huzij worked in private industry for more than 30 years overseeing apprentices and running an equipment remanufacturing shop.

Angelo Spano is Coordinator of the Truck and Coach Technician Apprenticeship program at Centennial College in Toronto. His deep background in heavy equipment drivetrain, steering, suspension, and track systems includes credentials as a Program Certified Heavy Equipment Technician and dual certified adult educator. Mr. Spano is also a member of the Ontario Heavy Equipment Technical Skills Competition and Skills Canada National Technical Committee for Heavy Equipment and Truck competitions.

Sean Bennett is a former program coordinator for the Truck and Diesel Department at Centennial College, as well as a former corporate trainer for Mack Trucks. During a 20-year tenure at the college he authored new curricula, helped overhaul existing course offerings, and chaired a wide range of curriculum development committees for the Province of Ontario. Bennett has written more than 30 books dealing with diesel, truck, heavy equipment, and automotive technology and currently devotes his career to technical writing and speaking engagements. He is an active member of the American Trucking Association's Technology and Maintenance Council, the Association of Diesel Specialists, the Society of Automotive Engineers, and the North American Council of Automotive Teachers. He is widely regarded as the foremost author in medium/heavy duty truck technology.

Wherein Bob Howard acquires a cat named "Spooky"

The Rhesus Chart is the fifth in a series of novels that begins with The Atrocity Archives and continues with "The Jennifer Morgue", "The Fuller Memorandum" and "The Apocalypse Codex". The Laundry, where series protagonist Bob Howard works, is a super-secret agency of the British Government tasked with dealing with supernatural threats. Bob tries to retain his humanity and a semblance of a normal life in face of overwhelming danger, and despite knowing Secrets that Man Was Not Meant to Know. In style the Laundry Files are the illegitimate offspring of H.P. Lovecraft with John le Carr�, mashed up with "The Office". Bob Howard's previous adventures are referred to frequently, so it would be best to read the series in order.

The premise of this latest installment (no spoilers not already found in the item description) is that there are vampires in London. But very little is as it seems; there are many surprises and reversals as Bob gets to the bottom of a very intricate plot. The vampires are not dealt with at all the way I expected. Old characters reappear (it would not be amiss to reread the series to this point) and some long established characters depart. I don't know how many novels are planned in the series, but there is a definite sense that Doomsday is approaching.

The humor is as good as it ever is, as is the suspense and the humanity. There are genuinely sad scenes: Bob's growth in knowledge and power is not without significant personal cost. Oh, and along the way, he adopts a black cat named "Spooky".

Highly recommended.

The Rhesus Chart isn't bad; it's just not clear why it exists at ...

Unexceptionable, but unexceptional. Stross made the deliberate decision to expand the scope of the Laundry series beyond its original arc, and has also said that he's run out of spy tropes to riff on, and so is deliberately moving to a more general urban fantasy genre. It shows. The Rhesus Chart isn't bad; it's just not clear why it exists at all. The story told moves the metaplot needle not a hair'swidth, and the take on vampirism, while given a little bit of cosmic horror spin, isn't even remotely new enough to challenge or surprise the reader. Bob continues to be Stross' weakest narrator--deliberately, I think, but being charmless on purpose doesn't make you charming--and, in keeping with The Apocalypse Codex, the story meanders back and forth for a couple hundred pages after the introduction before hitting a very abrupt and overconcise climax that doesn't especially feel dependent on what's come before.

I'm glad I read it, but it definitely isn't encouraging me to encourage friends who've never touched or didn't like the series to pick it up because "oh man the latest one will blow your mind." I guess that's the tl;dr.

More helpfully: Go read all the other Laundry books, starting with The Atrocity Archive, -then- pick up this one. You'll enjoy it if you're invested in the series, but it's definitely not a place to jump in in medias res.

The Rhesus Chart is the fifth in Charles Stross' Laundry Files (The Atrocity Archives, The Jennifer Morgue, The Fuller Memorandum, The Apocalypse Codex) that follows the trials of British civil servant Bob Howard, a former computer scientist corralled into working for a super-secret division of MI-6 tasked with defending the Universe. The series is a cross between the classic Cold War spy thriller and Lovecraftian cosmic horror. (Indeed, the recent Laundry Files novella Equoid involves Lovecraft himself.)

This time out.... Frankly, this time out is disappointing. The previous novels involved adventure, danger, action and excitement, even if Bob didn't want any part of it. This novel never leaves London, much less Earth; it never really gets beyond second gear. Though the story is told in first person, a good half of the action takes place when Bob is not present, and is told by reconstruction or after-action report.

This applies even to the climactic scenes of the novel, which turns a Pyrrhic victory into merely a damp squib. It's still a decent read, but given how well the series started out, this latest outing is so much less than it might have been. I would not really recommend it either to a new or an established reader of the series; instead, pick up Equoid and the other short works.
