A kick in the pants for any wannabe traveler!

A quick read that packs a punch! This would be a great gift to give someone who's thinking about travelling for the first time. Duke details his journey from a life of listlessness to a life filled with purpose through travel. His personal anecdotes are compelling and inspirational. I've been reading Duke's blog for awhile now, and as always his writing is somehow both straightforward and poetic! A great ebook to share with friends and discuss with fellow travellers.

Short, sweet, inspirational

I've been reading Duke Stewart Writes for some time now, and the blog has become one of my favorites. Carl's writing is solid, and the insights inspire. Christina's pictures are stunning, and breathe even more life into the stories. But those aren't the biggest reason this blog has become one of my go-tos. It's because of the passion. When you read Duke Stewart Writes, you are invited into a heartfelt, introspective journey into Travel, both its highs and lows.

"Why I Travel" is just a taste; it's short, but it does what every good book should do: it transports you to a different place. Kernels of universal truths pop up throughout; the kind that make goosebumps trace your spine as you think, "Yeah, I've totally experienced that."

So maybe I'm biased. You would be too. If you've traveled, want to travel, or think you might do it at some point in your life (got ya on that last one, right?), then spend the dollar, invest the time, and savor the peek into what it is to give oneself over to stepping outside of one's comfort zone. Good story...

I really liked the story ...WW II ,the love story and unhappy marriages ....it is my kind of book....I bought the second book to this ....(that's what I thought ) and was very disappointed to find out that "Violins of Autumn " is the same book !!!!! Its just newer edition of "Never Leave Me"....so...that's a bummer....Over all I enjoyed reading it !

suspenceful

I just finished reading this and had to write this review on this book. This book was even more suspenseful than the first one. I knew some of the things had to happen in this book. I knew Trevor would find her and it was not going to be good. I loved her courage. I bought this after I finished reading the first book. At first I wasn't going to and pick a book I already had but as. I read the last sentence I didn't waste anytime a couple minutes later I was reading this book because I had to find out how the story ends and what would happen to Trevor. I like this book a little better than the first. If you got the first story about Lily then spend the money and get this one also. I'm glad I did or I would be thinking for a long time what happened.

Absolutely nothing inappropriate

This review is actually for this book and its predecessor, He Loves Me Not. The author doesn't have a great writing style and the characters lack dimension but she does have a really good idea of how difficult it can be to escape from an abusive relationship; I know because it took me 18 years to get out of mine. The conflicting emotions that the heroine experiences are true to life. People who have never been victims of abuse often find it difficult to understand what makes it so hard to leave and once you do leave, why it's so hard to not go back and the author manages to capture, in a small way, those particular emotional conflicts. The heroine, in my opinion had things much too easy. She doesn't suffer from financial difficulties which makes her escape much simpler. Most abuse victims don't have the luxury of their own vehicle or a nice fat $100k bank account to live on, nor the luxury of being able to sell a deceased parent's home to add to that bank account. I had to laugh a little when Lily/Kate effortlessly drove away from Reno with no fear of running out of gas money, forked out money to rent a home, walked into a Doctor's Office and paid cash for her appointments and casually stopped by Wal-Mart to purchase a brand new crib and baby clothes...if only it was really that easy! They're not terrible books, but they're not great either. They're easy reads, and it only took me a few hours to get through each of them, although I never had a problem putting either of them down. I'll probably read more from this author because her books are inexpensive and have absolutely no profanity or inappropriate sexual passages and that is refreshing. These would probably be good books for older teenage girls to read to teach them to pay attention to the red flags they will most certainly see when they are dating.

The main character Lilly/Katy never grows. Keeps making stupid decisions that puts her child at risk. Wish I hadn't wasted my money giving this writer second chance.

About the Author
Tami Spry is a Professor of Performance Studies in the Communication Studies Department at St. Cloud State University (SCSU) in Minnesota. Spry’s performance work, publications, directing, and pedagogy focus on the development of cultural critique that engenders dialogue about difficult sociocultural issues; specifically, her work engages issues of race, sexual assault, grief, shamanism, and mental illness. She was the director of the Players Performance Group at SCSU, teaches abroad in Alnwick, England, and has conducted ethnographic work in Chile with Mapuche and Peruvian shaman on the performative dimensions of healing rituals. Tami received the 2010 Central States Communication Association Award for Outstanding Scholar in Performance Studies and the 2014 Leslie Irene Coger Award for Outstanding Achievement in Performance through the National Communication Association. Her book Body, Paper, Stage: Writing and Performing Autoethnography was nominated for the 2012 Qualitative Book Award through the International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry.
