Excels at Sweet Dessert Pops, but Falls Short on the Fruit Pops.

There is no shortage of pop recipes available for free on the web, but I purchased the "Zoku Quick Pops" book, because Zoku has some good recipes for fruit pops on its blog. I was hoping there were more where those came from. This book emphasizes very sweet dessert pops, however. There are 41 recipes in total, only 13 of which are fruit pops. There is a "Fresh and Fruity" chapter, followed by three chapters of dessert pops entitled "I Scream for Quick Pops!", "Bake Shop", and "Coco Loco". As you might guess from the last one, there are 15 pop recipes that contain chocolate.

Chapters on "Tips" and "Techniques" are useful. There is more detailed information about ingredients that don't freeze well in the Zoku than is found in the instruction manual. The book lists options for dairy products and sweeteners, tells you how to do different types of layers, how to add decorative fruit slices, how to do a quick shell, and how to make core pops. The pages about core pops are especially helpful, as they include recipes for pink, purple, and orange outer layers for brightly-colored core pops. The book recommends using Zoku accessory kits, but you can do without.

The pop recipes tend to go out of their way to be as sweet as possible. Many, including the recipe for a vanilla base, call for vanilla pudding, where vanilla Greek yogurt would do just as well. I've substituted it with no ill effect. On the bright side, many of these recipes may appeal to children, whereas most pop books that I have seen are geared more to adults. There are flavors like "Cookie Dough", "That's a S'more", chocolate peanut butter, and peanut butter and jelly. All 9 recipes in "Bake Shop" are inspired by cake and cookie recipes.

As a resource for light, fresh-tasting fruit pop recipes, "Zoku Quick Pops" is very limited. Most of the fruit recipes are gimmicky and contain too many ingredients. The recipe for Lemonade pops contains orange juice, which is fine, but the addition of vanilla extract kills the fresh fruit flavor. The recipe for mango pops includes orange, apple, banana and lemon, which are too many competing flavors. Mango and orange together make a terrific pop. The book is great for chocolate lovers and those looking for dessert pop recipes. Tips and techniques are also useful. For fruit pop recipes, "Top Pops" by Emily Zaiden is far better.

Worth it.

My first thought was that I don't need a cookbook to tell me how to make pudding. However, after making several batches of pops I now realize the cookbook is worth it. Had I just dumped pudding in the pop maker I would have been very disappointed with the results. Additionally, it has some very interesting recipes that I wouldn't have thought of on my own.

a MUST if you own the ZOKU

Really, it's impossible to live without this book anymore. If you bought a ZOKU, YOU NEED to have this book. It is complete, detailled, well explained. Everything is inside from all the techniques to all the great idea for making your own pops. BOTTOM LINE: Absolutely no pops in this book can freeze in 7 minutes. you have to wait AT LEAST 20 minutes for the creamy pops. The trick that we found playing with the ZOKU is to keep it in the freezer while the pops freeze. It helps a lot and work well.

This book was minimally useful but I studied the MALC Syllabus extensively with the core ITIL Publications in advance of receiving this book. I read through the book in two sittings, but did not use it again. The greatest usefulness would be to candidates who do not have the core books (an unfathomable thought to say the least, having reached this level in the ITIL Scheme). After passing the examination leading to ITIL Expert, I briefly reviewed this book again in comparison to what was actually taught in the course I attended (vendor was GK). The contents of the book matched almost exactly the content of the course I attended. Four stars as the book did not really add anything new due to my preparation before receiving the book. It could be a five star book for those who do not have the time to prepare in advance of their actual course.

Good 10,000-ft overview.

I read this book the weekend prior to my MALC class. It provides a good 10,000-foot overview of the MALC course, however, the case study at the back of the book is not the case study used by the MALC class or the test. Yes, the case study for the test is the exact same case study used in class and for the sample exams.

Smoking hot and heart-wrenching.

Isabel has been forced to live by the side of her mate, her love, for eight hundred years, all while he has no memory of her...
Let that sink in for a minute.
She has been forced into her own personal hell with no good explanation. She has had no one to talk to, no one to hear her, nothing to smell, touch, eat or do but follow around Brody no matter where he goes or what he does.

Brody is living a life of self-destruction. As alpha of his pack he is supposed to live by example but that has not been happening. He drinks himself numb, screws himself into oblivion and has no idea what his problem is. He has been alive for over 800 years but he is barely surviving until one fateful night when Isabel literally falls back into his life.

"Instead of living happily by his side, I'm living in hell, with no end in sight."

Being back is harder than being gone and Brody is forced to deal with the pain that Isabel has endured while he knew nothing. While Isabel is in emotional turmoil and doesn't know which end is up. These two are good at two things; fighting and sex. Everything else, they can't seem to figure out, not to mention there is still the mystery as to what happened in the first place.

I LOVE paranormal romance books and this was no exception. I loved learning about the pack and meeting some of the other players. I enjoyed all of the characters, Brody is an alpha in every sense of the word and Isabel is a strong willed heroine who doesn't put up with anything. These two heat up the pages both physically and verbally. Their story broke my heart to have it all, only to lose it and one who remembers and another who doesn't. It was also a unique story which had me from the very beginning. I am definitely looking forward to more of this series.

Stuck with the Heroine

Isabel McKay has been trapped for 800 years, tethered to her mate's side, watching his downward spiral ... watching him hump anything that came his way. Her only sin was that she fell in love with Brody Balfour. Then again, their predicament isn't Brody fault either. They are both victims of a crazy delusional witch looking for revenge. Straight forward plot: Boy+Girl+Ancient Curse= Witch's Revenge but the female lead just messed up the story a bit. The heroine is in full I'm the victim mode and I understand why. But come on.

The male lead (Brody) is drowning himself in self destructive sexual activity and she's really pissed (and its understandable) that she has to witness it. But this character goes from being pissed about him having sexual encounters with hundreds of women for 800 year to being mad that he didn't care enough about them or that he didn't take the time to get to know them. Really? I understand that the heroine's behavior helps to lead up to the climax of the story but there is a certain strength lacking in this female lead.

Waste of time

I tend to write lengthy review, good and bad. But for the life of me, I cannot muster up anything for this mindless drivel bit of porn I just read. Granted the premise itself was unique enough but the execution was poor. It lacked depth, the main characters were beyond annoying. So much I wanted the hurled my reading device against the wall. If they didn't fight, they were screwing each other non-stop. And I'm not sure there was even an plot. An 800 year separation and it's back to sex, sex, fighting, and more sex. That's basically the whole theme of this book.

And maybe I'm in the minority but I hate having to read when the heroines ends up apologizing more than the heroes. I get it must of been devastating watching her man screwing other women for 800 years but really. One minute she's shaking w/anger and jealousy. One touch from the heroes, and she quivering with lust. Way to hold up a strong front. You do us womenfolk proud. I mean, honestly is that's what it comes to these days. Each book lately is almost all the same, weak women who bends so easily. And don't even get me started on the hero. His whole "Get over It" or "I'll screw the attitude out of you" was getting old. I like possessive heroes but not the overbearing, douche type like Brody.

By the time I got to the end, I was sighing with relief. I regret ever taking my friend's dare to read this book. She finds it amusing to torture me I guess. But hey, if you have a couple hours to kill and in a mood for a smutty read with zero character development go for it. Otherwise I'd skip it.

Realistic new world

In a world where blood type determines your lot in life, A means a life of labour, B leads to a life of privilege and O to isolation on a distant island where the residents blood is harvested. As an A, Blue Anders has known no other life, than hard work and continual physical training by her brother. Her unbeatable strength has led her and her brother Baird to believe that she is the Light, the one that will fulfil the prophecy to free the Vemreaux from that which threatens them.

This is quite the world that author Mary Twomey has created. It appears to be a possible future of our own world. I love the careful attention to detail, such as all girls born in the same year, have the same middle name. To add a twist to the population, she has given the Bs the opportunity to undergo the Change to extend their life span by many decades.

There are strict class rules which seem quite daunting, though they do thin within the work place. The lowest of Bs always outrank As, yet Baird still manages to keep control of the activities within the business he manages. Makes this a very real society in my view.

The role of family is explored in this novel. Elle and Grettel are not related to Blue and Baird, yet they live together and care for each other as family. These bonds are further tested when several Vemreaux become involved with the siblings.

The further I got into this story, the more I liked Blue and even Baird. I did not want to book to end, but I wanted to find out what happens, did she fulfil the prophecy.

The last part is not answered yet, as the story continues in the next book The Truth, which I am looking forward to,

Good storyline

This was a good read that was pretty entertaining. I wouldn't say I was yanked into the storyline like other reviewers or that I couldn't stop reading once I started, but I did enjoy it. I feel it was a little slow in some areas, but overall it was a unique read. Since this is a YA book and I am not a YA, some of it could've been lost on me. The writing is good and the storyline is intriguing. I just wish it was a little faster paced.

On a side note, this is the first book in a series, so the storyline might pick up in the other books in the series.

Amazing characters that I could really get attached to. I loved some and I hated others but that seemed to be exactly where Mary Twomey was going. The plot grips you right away and doesn't let go leaving you wanting more at the end. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!! Very glad I bought the least expensive Kindle edition. The book is poorly written, the grammar is severely lacking, the editor/reviewer should be fired for incompetence, and the samples in the companion download bear zero resemblance to the text of the book. One example (of MANY): Chapter 2 introduces EntityDataSource controls. It says to use Visual Studio 2013, SQL Server 2014, and Entity Framework 6 as the necessary versions for following the text. The text then says to create a simple ASP.NET web project and drag the EntityDataSource control from the toolbox to the web form. However, the EntityDataSource control in the toolbox is:
1. From EF version 5
2. NOT compatible with EF 6
3. NOT upgradable to the EF 6 version of the control (per Microsoft)
This renders the rest of the section in the text for configuring the control completely irrelevant for EF 6. This is one example of many that I have had to work around or try to figure out just in the first few chapters - worthless book.

This book is not a real book but just an early draft of a book. It's full of typos, copy-paste errors, same sentences placed multiple times on adjacent pages, blah-blah with no details etc

Conceptual trainwreck

It feels like this book was written by a machine AI that copied and pasted marketing slogans, random snippets from stackoverflow, and meaningless powerpoint diagrams. If you're like me, you were hoping to get a tutorial in entity framework that would start from basic concepts and and build from there, you will be bewildered by the constant use of unexplained terminology and the redundant, disorganized style. (For a random example, consider p. 21 "features at a glance"--it's a list of high-level marketing bullets about all the features of Entity Framework, some of which have been discussed previously, other's of which are completely opaque. What is a summary like this doing in the _middle_ of a chapter, surrounded by highly detailed explanations of specific concepts???). Don't waste your money or time on this book.

A comprehensive and understandable work on hydraulics...

As a lecturer and graduate student in water resource engineering, I have read numberous textbooks covering the topic of fluid mechanics. I have reviewed textbooks written by aeronautical and mechanical engineers, and find that the civil engineers, particularly Dr.'s Finnemore and Franzini, have done an exemplary job in writing a book that is clear and logical, yet spares no detail, in presenting the fundamentals of fluids to undergraduates and graduates alike. The book begins with definitions, viscocity, and hydrostatics, then moves along to open-channel hydraulics and waterhammer.
The authors discuss the details in terms of concepts, testing, and mathematical computations while using a minimum of complicated vector integrals. They continue to present "the big picture" of hydraulics even while explaining fluid theory - a student and lecturer could not ask for more. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that I laud this textbook and recommend it to any practicing civil or agricultural engineer, or to any student of engineering.

Best hydraulic reference I have found & I use it regularly

I own the 8th edition and have used it regulary since graduation 12 years ago as a practicing civil engineer designing water treatment plants. I have looked at many other fluid mechanics books over the years and have not found any equal to this one. I need to get the 10th edition and see how it has changed with Daugherty no longer around. There are other books that are more in-depth with theoretical analysis, but this one has the best balance betweeen theory and practical application for typical civil engineering projects.

Okay but not exceptional

Most of the material covered is fairly basic with an emphasis on fluid statics of course (constant velocity flow). I was disappointed to see apparent absence of higher level mathematics. I understand that many of the real problems in fluid dynamics/CFD are approximations of the underlying equations (Navier-Stokes, etc.). However I would like to have seen some of the simpler models of turbulent flow at the very least. The homework problems are very easy.

Not up to date as I would have liked

Tried using this as the primary textbook for a conversational English class at church and found out that it is best used to supplement other teaching methods. Its does provide a thorough covering of conversational English but many of the words are no longer used (at least in this generation). Even the slang words were not as up to date as I would have liked but we were able to contextualize some of the phrases as being more appropriate to different age groups. In the end, I still use this to determine a topic for each week, such as "Making Friends" or "Expressing Forgiveness" but then either develop my own lessons or use many of the free ESL worksheets and activites available online.

Communicable disease control, epidemiology, genetics, nutrition, toxicology, social work, sanitation and public health engineering, environmental sciences, administration, and other specialized fields all have their own languages." Thus, the task of preparing a dictionary of public health terminology is not easy. John M. Last and contributors successfully managed this task by not only defining words in a remarkable way but also by providing often additional valuable information for each term. Here are three examples: (1) "'accuracy' The degree to which a measurement or an estimate based on measurement represents the true value of the attribute being measured. Not to be confused with PRECISION or VALIDITY." (2) "'fecundity' The capability of producing live-born offspring. This can be assessed only in retrospect, as there is no consistently reliable and valid way of testing for potential fecundity." (3) "'quality of life (QOL)' An essentially subjective judgment of the way people perceive themselves as contented and happy or otherwise, and able to function physically, emotionally, and socially. Others, including health workers, can make a relatively objective judgment of some of these aspects of a person's way of living, but the affected individual is the ultimate judge."

As a microbiologist and epidemiologist, I have used this dictionary for many years. It proved to be a valuable companion throughout my scientific career as a faculty, researcher, and writer. I highly recommend the Dictionary of Public Health to anyone who has an interest in this field. On a final note, like many other disciplines, public health is not static but constantly changing and further developing over time. Consequently, new words are being added, existing ones are sometimes re-defined, and individual terms may become obsolete. Since this dictionary was published in 2007, I believe a new addition is warranted and would be welcome by many public health professionals.
